Admissions through JEE (Main) Score

Admission Process and Rounds:

  • The admission process has multiple rounds.
  • In each round, the institute will allot a seat to eligible applicants, and seat allotted applicants will have a deadline by which they can accept or decline the allotted seat.
  • In the event no seat is allotted to the applicant, the applicant can choose to continue to further rounds. This is NOT automatic.

(Jump to Round and Refund Schedule)

Seat Acceptance:

  • The applicant should use the portal to explicitly accept the seat and pay the required fees as given below.
  • The applicants who fail to do so will have their seat allotment cancelled and will not be considered for further rounds of admission.

Continuation to Further Rounds:

An applicant who has not been allotted a seat MUST explicitly concur (agree) to participate in further rounds of seat allotment. This requires logging onto the application portal, indicating acceptance and paying the required fee.

One Seat Allotment Policy:

  • A candidate is allowed to apply for multiple modes of admission to IIIT and choose multiple programme preferences, but will be allowed to accept, pay for and hold one seat only in one of the admission modes, of one of the programmes.
  • Seat Acceptance across Modes: If a candidate gets a seat in one admission mode š‘‹ (e.g. UGEE), accepts and pays for it and later gets a seat in a different mode š‘Œ (e.g. JEE), then s/he can accept and pay for the latter seat only after giving up/cancelling the earlier accepted seat in mode š‘‹. The candidate will then no longer be eligible for further rounds of mode š‘‹, but can participate in further rounds of mode š‘Œ, if any.
  • Seat Acceptance across Institutes: A candidate may apply across multiple institutes. However, we strongly discourage candidates to accept, pay and hold onto multiple seats, as the timely opportunity of those seats becomes unavailable to others. Candidates are encouraged to accept and pay for a seat at one institute only after cancelling the seat being held at another institute, if any.

The counseling procedure, seat acceptance, cancellation and refund policies are based on the above understanding.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

Applicants can cancel their seat allotment at any time before reporting to the institute by selecting the cancel seat option in the application portal.
Applicable refund will be made depending on the date of cancellation, round of seat allotment, and evidence of holding only one seat. For this, the applicant needs to upload a copy of a valid admission offer letter from another institute with a date later than the offer that is being cancelled. Refund amount details for each round are listed in the table below. Cancellations/refund requests before 1st July 2023 will be completed by 20th July 2023. All other applicable refunds will be completed by 21st August 2023.

Admissions Counseling Procedure (Summary)

  • In every round, the applicants have to either accept an allotted seat or confirm their willingness to participate in the next round by a specific deadline.
  • If a seat is allotted and you are satisfied with your current allotment, accept, lock the seat, and proceed for payment in the online portal. The allocation will be locked in your name and you will not be considered for your higher preferences in subsequent rounds.
  • If you want to be considered for your higher preferences in the next round of allotment, you need to first accept the allotted seat and make the required payment to complete the seat acceptance. You can leave the accepted seat unlocked while doing so. Failure to accept the allotted seat and pay the fees will remove you from all subsequent rounds of seat allocation.

Admissions Counseling (Detailed)

The flowchart below explains the process that an applicant is to follow in every round.

If you do not lock a seat and the seat is upgraded in a later round, you will have to accept the upgraded seat or give up the seat. You cannot go back to your earlier allocated seat.

The cancellation deadlines for the round when an applicant was offered a seat for theĀ first timeĀ and accepted will determine the refund amount in case of seat cancellation. This is regardless of whether (a) the seat offered and accepted for the first time was in a programme of highest preference of the applicant or, (b) there was an upgrade in a later round, to a seat in a programme of higher preferenceĀ of the applicant.
Refund amounts for eligible diversity-pool applicants who are availing 25% tuition fee-waiver will also be computed based on the above table, depending on the actual tuition amount paid.
Refund Illustration:
1. Suppose an applicantā€™s program preferences are [A, B, C] in that order.
2. Suppose the applicant did not get a seat in Round 1.
3. Suppose the applicant gets a seat in Program B in Round 2 and accepts it. Then, cancellations dates and refund amounts of Round 2 will apply to the applicant.
4. Suppose the applicant gets an upgrade offer to Program A in Round 3 and accepts it. Still, the cancellations dates and refund amounts of Round 2 will continue to apply to the applicant.
5. In case the applicant cancels the seat, the refund amount is as mentioned for Round 2 (andĀ notĀ Round 3), as on the date of cancellation.
Note:
  • The number of Rounds of admission that will be conducted is subject to the availability of seats.
  • All deadlines are at 5.00 PM Indian Standard Time of the announced date.
  • All refunds are repayable by end of 21st August 2023.
  • The dates for our allotment of seats, your acceptance/cancellation of the
allotted seats, etc., may be modified based on the JoSAA-2023 schedule. Please visit our website regularly and await the announcement.
  • Seat allocation is final after the last round. No upgrading is permitted even if there are unfilled seats.
  • The institute reserves the right to conduct different rounds of seat allocation based on the available seats and the number of acceptances after a round.
  • If a candidate fails to meet the eligibility criteria mentioned on our website, the candidate becomes ineligible, and his/her admission will be canceled.
  • If an applicant already has an accepted seat at IIIT-H in another admission mode, and later gets a seat in JEE mode, they can accept it only after relinquishing the earlier accepted seat. Further, they must accept the first instance the seat is offered in the JEE mode regardless of it not being their highest preference programme, to switch and continue in the JEE mode.
  • First-year students should report to the institute tentatively on 28th July 2023 for registration, welcome session and classes.
